no longer so vain

Faithful blog readers, oh you silent masses, I've changed locations in the blogosphere. My new home is at Narwhal Magazine. It's just like living here, but with better neighbors.

You can now find me blawgin' away under the name Kierkegaard is for Teenagers cause, well, he is. Bookmark that shit.

It's been sweet, real sweet.

tangled web

I saw something to this effect at the MoMA a couple of years ago, but as they didn't let me take a picture I thought it had left my life forever. Not the case, though this rendition seems infinitely less legit...considering the last webs look like they were drawn in MS Paint. It's interesting, regardless.

"Scientists at the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have turned their attention from the mysteries of the cosmos to a more esoteric area of research: what happens when you get a spider stoned.

Their experiments have shown that common house spiders spin their webs in different ways according to the psychotropic drug they have been given. NASA scientists believe the research demonstrates that web-spinning spiders can be used to test drugs because the more toxic the chemical, the more deformed was the web."

teen dream

Latest ffffinding: the art of Steph Davidson. She is from Ontario, so there are some nice cynically-Canadian undertones to her work. And yes, I'm speaking specifically about the incorporation of Canadian Tire money into her work.

She does some pretty nifty collages...

A lot of GIFs that I may or may enjoy, but can certainly admire, i.e.

Some bored-in-class type doodley stuff...

Aaaand, the crown jewel of the catalogue, lots of weird reworkings of preteen classics that I'm obviously such a sucker for:

This last one reminds me of a project I am on the cusp of undertaking (maybe). It's called The Childhood Review of Books and it's going to be a serialized column involving my 20-year-old self rereading things I liked when I was 8 and then writing about them.

Tentative reading list involves exclusively mass-produced, ghostwritten Burnaby Public Library classics. A working list of titles includes The Baby-Sitter's Club, Sweet Valley High, The Boxcar Children, and The Saddle Club.

dicey

I recently chanced upon the art of Hilary Pecis, who is currently a MFA student at the California College the Arts. Her collages depict these incredible psychedelic dreamscapes. I'm in love with them; they're basically the visual equivalent of listening to the Black Dice (who, interestingly, also met at art school, albeit on America's opposite coast).
